FIBA 3x3 BASKETBALL

Half Court, But FULL THROTTLE

The Lowdown on 3×3
• Now an Olympic Sport – will debut at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo
• Designed to grow the popularity of basketball around the world, particularly among younger consumers
• Annual international events: FIBA 3×3 World Cup (national teams) and FIBA 3×3 World Tour (city teams)
• Global 3-on-3 participation is > 500M across all levels

3×3 Game Rules
• Half court; both teams shoot at the same basket
• 4 players per team (3 on the court + 1 reserve) and no coaches
• Baskets are worth 1 point from inside the arc and 2 points
   from outside the arc
• The game is over when a team scores 21 points or the
   10:00 game clock expires
• Tournament format

Not Your Daddy’s 3-on-3: This Is the Fastest-Paced

Team Sport on the Planet
• 12-second shot clock
• Live ball after made baskets (no inbound play)
• No intermissions; only one timeout per team
• Ball must be “cleared” beyond the arc after every change
   of possession
• Games are short and sweet, averaging barely over
   18 minutes in real time
• Non-stop intensity: both teams have a sense of urgency
   on every play

Survey results from 2017 FIBA 3×3 World Tour

• 89% said they had “fun” or “a lot of fun” at the event
• 96% say they would recommend the event to a friend
• 27% attended the event after noticing it as they were simply “passing by”

Mobile-Friendly
• Intimate field of play
• Less camera movement
• Tighter viewing angles
• Easier to follow the action

Olympics Qualification Rules
• NBA players are unlikely to play 3×3 in the Olympics because the only way to qualify is by competing in a
sufficient number of FIBA-endorsed 3×3 tournaments
• On an Olympic 3×3 team, all four players must have accumulated enough qualification points to be
ranked in the Top 50 in their respective countries for 3×3; two of them must be in the Top 10
• Only tournaments that use all of the official FIBA 3×3 rules count toward
   Olympic qualification

USA Has Some Catching Up to Do
• The Top 5 nations for men’s 3×3 are Serbia, Slovenia, Russia, Latvia, and Brazil; USA’s global ranking is 14th
• To date, the USA’s only medal in men’s 3×3 was in 2016 when 3BALL USA’s trio of former college stars Myke
Henry, Alfonzo McKinnie, and Stefhon Hannah led the U.S. team to the silver medal in Guangzhou, China.
